frequently asked questions

  • A great question! But unfortunately, not an easy one to answer. As all pieces are dependant on different parameters (stone and gold selection, design complexity, use of pre-existing materials etc.) it is hard for Caitlin to give you a definitive answer. Keep in mind that all pieces are handcrafted, and as such, Caitlin’s time and skills, on top of material costs, will be factored into the job cost.

  • Of course! This is the beauty of custom jewellery, as it allows old unworn pieces to be reinvigorated. Upon personal inspection of your old pieces, Caitlin will determine whether such can be incorporated into your design, or if additional materials will be needed to complete the job.

  • Depending on the complexity of your job, Caitlin generally requires 4-8 weeks turnaround once a job quote has been signed. However, prior to this, there may be some back and forth communication as we secure your dream stone/s, work out a budget or devise a collaborative design. So make sure you take this into consideration when you have a deadline (I’m looking at you gents!) in mind.

  • With the 21st Century magic of Zoom video calls and Australia Post, it doesn’t matter where you live, we can design, make and send jewellery to you!

    caitlin boyd jewellery design has created and posted pieces for clients all over Australia, including regional and rural areas.

  • There are multiple ways we can go about determining your ring size:

    1. During our consultation meeting, Caitlin can test your ring size using finger sizing tools

    2. If you located outside of Brisbane, Caitlin can send you a plastic sizing tool. This provides a quick and easy reading, however, isn’t always accurate so its recommended you also;

    3. Head into your local jewellery store and have your ring size confirmed there. It is best if you receive a UK/AUS size e.g. M, N, O, however, Caitlin can convert whatever sizing your receive

    4. If all else fails, Caitlin has some back up options, especially for our surprise proposals, so please contact us if this might be you.

  • Firstly, congratulations on considering a custom jewellery piece. This is truly a collaborative process, where you will be a part of each step, and come away with exactly what you want.

    1. Contact Caitlin, outlining what you have in mind. Providing your rough budget, time frame and design ideas to date are a big help in getting the ball rolling.

    2. Depending on the amount of ground work you have done so far, Caitlin might arrange a Zoom video call, to step through design possibilities and ideas.

    3. From here, Caitlin will source potential gemstones for your design, sketch up an array of possible design ideas and/or put together a quote/s for what you have discussed together.

    4. Once a quote has been accepted, a deposit will be required in order for construction to commence. From here, your job is done! Caitlin will be in contact with you once the job is complete and ready to be sent off!
